first things first, contractors were supposed to be coming today to fit new door, but on friday i had a phonecall, our workmen will be at yours thursday and friday next, door and fan thurs. decorated friday. i said we were told wednesday, nooooo she said thurs. ok. so as i trust them soo much, i took everything out of hall. Noone had arrived by 9.30,and so i went out, leaving mum happily watching her tv. just to my friend pams, for an hour. so,had been there oooo 5 minutes, mobile rang. mum . electrician has turned up,doesnt know what he has to do? i had word or 5 ,explained he was to change fan to a sensor type, blah. but says he it IS a sensor type. it just not been wired in right, and its faulty. dont think i got 1 on van. ermmm i thought you were bringing one??? anyway, told him to make himself a cuppa,done.10 mins later, mobile, mum. decorators here wants word. where i got to strip paper from says he?? none in bathroom like what it says on ticket and why isnt door fitted?? i explained rather nicely that the paper was in the hall, fairly obvious,he had to cut it back to walls, strip it off and prepare for me to paper. decided to come home. well he has done wall, looks good , he has primed and undercoated the door frame, and after door been fitted will come back and gloss. electrician coming tomorrow to fit fan. maybe just maybe it will be finished .
dead on 3pm a knock on front door,i went, and this vision stood there lol sorry ladies but she was gorgeous. blond late 20s and it turned out pregnant with twins bless. hello she says ive come to carry out your carers assessment. at last. been waiting since last july for it. she showed me the letter of referral she had had,she only got it dec.11th wonder where its been all this time?? anyway, she was sooo nice, made mum feel part of it,explained that now i am officially on the social services list as mums carer, and that there was so much help i could get. and was with us over an hour.
i now got a team of carers who, if i need time off, will step in and look after mum,she knows the MS nurse, and told me she is very good, that there is a MS sufferers "club" in sheringham,12 miles along coast, which i am going to join,so a carer will come in and look after mum while i go. mum is quite ok with this, and also a "visitor" a volunteer will call in every now and then to sit and chat with mum also will sit with her , again to give me a break. also i am entitled to a blue badge, and she is getting someone to come and talk to me about any benefits i may be entitled to, so much help i am entitled to. and never bothered claiming.
I wonder just how many carers are like me?? looking after an elderly parent, child relative, lover, husband, wife. we do it out of love. but we are entitled to help,i know that now. and if anyone reads this,in my shoes, who has never asked for help,PLEASE do so. my life, hopefully is going to be bit easier.just got to wait until everything sorted you too can have help. caring for a loved one is a privilege,i do it because she is my mum,and i love her. but we carers, we deserve to have a life too. so,i hope tomorrow to have new fan,new door, and in 2008 a bit more time for me. take care all

Thats great news Mort, now you'll get the much wanted support you need must be a huge relief, knowing there is someone to care for your mum when your not there and it also means that you will have a bit of free time, because you've got to look after yourself also.
Take care
Yasmin
